Please meet our October PJ Library Family of the Month - The Perlman Family! Amanda, Evan, Ari (7), and Adina (3.5) live in Columbia and have been a PJ Library family for many years. Ari is in 2nd grade at the Mandala School and Adina is at an in-home daycare. Evan is a health care policy researcher and Amanda works in biological research safety. Read below to find out more about them and their love of PJ Library!
How did you hear about PJ Library? We've had PJ Library in our home since Ari was old enough to enroll. The kids recognize the white and blue envelopes in the mailbox and love knowing there’s mail that is just for them.
What is your family's favorite PJ Library book? Our favorite PJ Library book is Braid the Challah by Beily Paluch. Ari and Adina love pretending to mix and knead their own challahs. When the book shows us to braid the challah with our arms, all four of us put our arms together in one giant twisty pretend challah.
Why is PJ Library important in your home? When our kids receive books about Jewish holidays and values, they feel connected to the other Jewish kids in our community.
How has PJ Library influenced your family's Jewish living and decisions? PJ Library has given our family books to learn about every holiday on the calendar. It’s easy to learn about our customs and talk about how we feel because there is a book in our family library that gives us language that the kids can understand. We try to make a pile of relevant books before every holiday and read through them as a family.
What is your favorite PJ Library program? We enjoyed a PJ Library event where each kid decorated their own Havdalah spice bag. Ari and Adina love making items we can use as part of our family traditions.
We hope you enjoyed getting to know the Perlman Family this month! If you'd like to be featured as an upcoming Family of the Month, send Allison an email.
